Troop Happenings 2008

Troops #10650 ( Juniors ) and #10286 ( Brownies )
In the last month our troops #10650 ( Juniors ) and #10286 ( Brownies ) have been Santa helpers. The girls decorated stockings with glitter paint and foam shapes.

The girls then filled each stoking and took them along with can foods that they had collected to the bikers toy run in Willits. The Girls all had a great time helping Santa, decorate and deliver them. ( Our younger girls wanted to know why they could not give them to the people ) Some girls were unable to attend this event due to the bad weather.

The girls sat on Santa's lap, during the Christmas Craft Fair. They enjoyed this event and all told Santa what they wanted him to bring for them. Troop #10650 and troop #10286 have also been christmas caroling. The girls started by caroling for a Women's Group on December 9 then on December 18th the girls, with raindeer hats and bells, caroled at Northbrook, a retirement home. Each of the girls learned a lot about older adults and had fun while doing this. We may get together with the residents on a monthly basis. We will be caroling at the senior center in Willits on December 22, 2008.
Troop 10417 Goes Camping

Cadette troop 10417 went camping at the KOA in Willits. It was decided that all meals would be cooked over open flames. No propane and no charcoal. The girls planned all the meals and shopped for the food. While there they would ask why we didn't bring this or that. I just kept telling them it wasn't on the menu.

The girls were amazed that it took so long to prepare the meals, and it really cut into their play time. It was also shocking that they were required to wash dishes after every meal.

The Willits KOA was really a great place to camp.  They had FREE mini-golf, a petting zoo, play ground, volleyball net, horseshoe pits and G rated movies at nice.  If you plan on taking your troop call directly to make reservations.  Let them know that you are Girl Scouts and they will give you a 10% group discount.

Roar n Snore Troop 10335 and Exploratorium

Troop 10335 (and Maegan troop 10417) use their earnings from cookie money to spend the night at the San Francisco Zoo for the Girl Scout Roar'n' Snore. As an afternoon jaunt, before the wild night at the zoo, we go to the Exploratorium in the big city and explore a lot of really neat stuff. This was a dream trip for the girls for almost two years. Yeah!!!

Festival of Sail in San Francisco "Tall ships"

Our family went to the Festival of sail in San Francisco, July 26. We were welcomed by Oakland girl scouts at a booth along the water front. Throughout the day we spotted scouts of all ages as we boarded the tall ships that only sail through San Francisco every 4 years.

One ship was in the Pirates of the carribean movie. We had a fun adventure. Thanks Girl Scouts for signing us up. Siobhan (local GS leader) with Junior Katie, Brownie Heather and hubby.
